Cancer Fighting Foods
This month as I said last week is dedicated to all the women out there so today we are going to look at some of the foods that can reduce our chances to fight off this plague to our society.
Just a small disclaimer here before I move on, cancer is a strange disease, one that we are just starting to understand, if you are reading this and you are diagnosed with this disease, my heart goes out to you and your family and please follow what your physician requests.
The following are merely recommendations to prevent a healthy individual from forming cancer, not a means of a cure. Now that we have finished the legal stuff, and please understand the disclaimer and take it to heart, let’s get on with it.
Breast cancer is a cancer that affects the fatty tissue in the chest, it affects 1 in 8 women (about 26, 300 women) and about 230 men. 5,000 women and 43 men will die from it (Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation). This stat was placed in last week’s post, this week we are going to look at some foods that can help you fight off the disease from ever forming.
So, what kinds of foods can help you prevent cancer from forming? Well I’m glad you asked!
Foods that high in antioxidants give you the best cancer fighters there are. These foods are sometimes known as “superfoods”. Superfoods are just regular everyday foods that are just jacked with antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals. These foods not only help you fight off cancer but also help you lead a healthier, longer, and more joyful life. Yes, food has a direct correlation on how you feel, whether you fall into depression, and many other things.
So, what are these superfoods? Well there are plenty this blog post will get into only three of them that have a focus on cancer just to keep it in line with the topic of the month. These superfoods are:
• Eggplant, Kale, Tomatoes. Actually, any colorful fruit or vegetables that you can get your hands on. Kale, for example, is super rich in antioxidants that has been proven to help your chances in never getting cancer. I know kale tastes horrible, but the Brazilians have a way of making it amazingly tasty.
• The Omega Effect. I have said this before in a previous blog post about the anti-aging effect of Omega-3’s but Omega-3 also has some cancer fighting skills as well as they have the ability to flood the body with a ton of ALA, EPA and DHA (for a more detailed explanation follow this link)
• Good source of dietary fiber. In a previous blog post I stated we should be eating like our cave dwelling ancestors, the problem is they never ate any grains, now they were a lot tougher than us, rarely did they suffer from aliments such as cancer or heart disease (this was more of an older person’s problem). On the flip side of this statement 30 to 45 grams of fiber per day gives you enough antioxidants to fight off this plague that has us at its mercy. And to be honest 30 to 45 grams per day isn’t much in the first place, so go ahead and have that bowl of Stone Ground Oatmeal and don’t worry about it.
Well another week in the bag, and I really hope that you can take these three simple points to heart and use them to knock that ugly number down a notch or two. My actual hope is eradicated it completely but that is just wishful thinking for now. I know there are some smart people working on it but for now you can use the above three tricks to slow it down or get rid of from at least your life.
Next week we are going to dive into the finer details of exercise and how it can help you fight off cancer in general, you can’t really just focus on one part of the body, I’ll explain next week.
